On Saturday, October 20, 2018, 97.1 AMP Radio (a Radio.com station) turned the iconic Hollywood Bowl pink to celebrate survivors and honor those who lost their battle to breast cancer, at the 6th annual We Can Survive concert.
The sixth annual concert event is held each year during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and is presented in collaboration with Young Survival Coalition (YSC).
This years concert featured performances from Marshmello, Shawn Mendes, Meghan Trainor, G-Eazy, Tyga, Charlie Puth, Ella Mai, Khalid, and NF.
The night’s highlights included Ella Mai kicking off the concert with her infectious smooth vocals, she had everyone singing along to her hit single “Boo’d Up.” Khalid surprised the crowd with an energetic, feel good set, he got everyone up on their feet and it got loud especially when he performed “Location.” Which if you didn’t figure out by now, the location to be at last night was the Hollywood Bowl.
The man of the night Shawn Mendes hit the stage and it was pandemonium, the crowd was singing, dancing and screaming. “In My Blood” was the crowds favorite, at one point Shawn stopped singing and the crowd sang the song while he stared and smiled. An unforgettable night for Shawn indeed.
Meghan Trainor and her infectious pop bops had the crowd dancing, especially with “All About That Bass,” “Me Too,” and “No.” The nights best moments came when she dedicated “Dear Future Husband” to her fiancé Daryl Sabara, whom was in the crowd with her family. The other standout moment was when she had the crowd turn on their cellphone lights as she sang “Like I’m Gonna Lose You.”
Tyga performed his hits including “Ayo” and even brought out Chris Brown, the nights surprise. He also performed “Rack City” and a medley of hip hop tracks, he closed his set with current hit single “Taste.”
Hometown pop sensation, Charlie Puth got emotional as he thanked the crowd as they stood on their feet for his entire set. He performed “Attention,” “Marvin Gaye,” “How Long,” “One Call Away” and ended his set with global hit single “See You Again.”
G-Eazy delivered a set for his day 1 fans, which included a new track and hit singles “Me, Myself, and I,” and “Him & I.”
Ending the night with a fist pumping, dance set, Marshmello. He paid homage to Avicii, played a karaoke rendition of “Don’t Stop Believing,” which had the entire crowd singing. Confetti and fireworks ended the night with his massive single “Happier.”
