Global music icon Carlos Vives teams up with Puerto Rican artist Pedro Capó to release the music video for their collaboration “Pagamento,” which is part of Vives’ recent album Cumbiana II, which was released earlier this year.
Filmed between Santa Marta and Puerto Rico, the visual was directed by Sergio Rodríguez and produced by Mestiza Films. The video features Vives and Capó highlighting the natural beauty of their respective countries, Colombia and Puerto Rico.
The song was produced by Carlos Vives and KOGIMAN (Martín Velilla and Andrés Leal) and is a journey of sounds that includes the Puerto Rican cuatro, the guaracha, the Colombian bagpipe, among others, intertwined with an urban rhythm that connects with the new generations. Alongside Vives, Pedro Capó adds his own tropical riff to the idea of retribution, invoking a flirty vibe that transports us to a Puerto Rican beach.
The origins of “Pagamento” are found in a traditional Tayrona ritual of gratitude to the natural world. In an act of gratitude, believers leave offerings to the spirits in the trunks of ancient trees, the mouth of a river, and other sacred places. Through the song, Vives and Pedro Capó appreciate everything that their countries have given them: every sacred space found in nature. That is why they mention iconic, sacred, and important places in Colombia and Puerto Rico, which not only represent their culture, but also fill them with pride.
