In anticipation of the release of The Call of The Wild on Friday, February 21st, we had the opportunity to attend a press day with Cara Gee star of the film.
What was it like working with Harrison Ford, did you learn anything from him?
I feel so lucky to work with such an iconic actor, it’s great such a master of his work. It’s great seeing such an actor act a simple throwaway line as if its the most important line in the film. It was awe-inspiring.
What was it like filming in the Yukon?
We actually shot the movie in Santa Clarita, all of the buildings were built. Nothing is what it seems, it was amazing. As a Canadian I was like “great back to the cold” but no, it was great. The only downfall was we had to wear a lot of warm clothes to make it seem like we were in a winter wonderland.
What themes or lessons do you think audiences will take away from this film?
I think it’s a really beautiful coming of age story, it’s about becoming a better and better version of yourself. When I watched it, I put myself in Buck’s place, it’s his story. To see how he’s resilient and overcomes such tough circumstances to become his trues self is the true core of this story. What’s the next chapter? We all have to find that out ourselves.
Adapted from the beloved literary classic, THE CALL OF THE WILD vividly brings to the screen the story of Buck, a big-hearted dog whose blissful domestic life is turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Yukon during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. As the newest rookie on a mail delivery dog sled team–and later its leader–Buck experiences the adventure of a lifetime, ultimately finding his true place in the world and becoming his own master.
