Christian Chávez and RBD Wrap Up #SOYREBELDETOUR at Estadio Azteca

Concluding one of the most successful world tours of 2023, Christian Chávez marked the end of the highly acclaimed reunion #SoyRebeldeTour with RBD with a spectacular performance at the iconic Estadio Azteca on Thursday, December 21st.

The Estadio Azteca date was an appropriate closer to one of the most successful tours of the year in the whole music industry, and of course, Christian shone throughout the whole experience. As he said in a moving speech during the concert, he was forced out of the closet, lost his job, and went through some dark times; now, Christian has become a central part of RBD’s narrative, the member with which much of the fans connected with during the tour. During his impassioned speech, he talked about his identity and his tireless work to ensure rights for LGBTQ+ people like himself; “si luchar por mi libertad me hace puto, ¡entonces soy puto!” (“if fighting for my freedom makes me gay, then I’m gay”) after which he took off the jacket of his controversial and iconic pink charro suit to reveal a t-shirt that read “Puto.” He then launched into “El Rey” by José Alfredo Jiménez backed by mariachi, giving a nod to this homecoming celebration.

Of note was Christian’s wardrobe throughout the whole tour. He created, along with his styling team, all pieces of iconic fashion he wore onstage in every step of the way. This additional creative outlet led Christian to express himself in a very personal way as well as that made it possible for him to fulfill a dream he wanted to pursue since his youth, to let his inner child play with fashion, but didn’t feel free enough to do so until now. This was something crucial for Christian as it allowed the world to see him as he really is for the first time in his life.

The #SoyRebeldeTour, celebrating the 20-year legacy of one of the greatest Latin pop bands in history, had made waves in the U.S., Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico, with sold-out stadiums and arenas. The tour kicked off in El Paso, TX at the Sun Bowl Stadium, near the U.S./Mexico border, drawing a crowd of 40,000 fans.

Notable achievements during the tour include the highest-grossing event in Sun Bowl history on the opening night in El Paso, the highest-grossing show of 2023 at Houston’s Minute Maid Park, and two sold-out nights at NYC’s Madison Square Garden. Additionally, the band’s two shows at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago now hold the largest two-show attendance record in venue history, along with the largest two-show gross of all time, with the Friday show being the largest single-show gross.
