A new kind of drive-in movie and cultural experience rooted in community, art, entertainment, and food called Cinemauto is launching in Los Angeles in Chinatown, beginning Sept. 18 & 19 through December!
The thoughtful event series brings together community, art, culture, fashion, food and entertainment while supporting local businesses, artists, and non-profit organizations.
Cinemauto will surface marginalized community stories through art, while reintroducing an old friend, the drive-in movie, in a modern, culturally-relevant way via a curated market, neighborhood restaurants, digital exhibitions, and additional entertainment as a way to connect, inspire and nurture the community and give a much-needed sense of togetherness.
Weekend 1 (Sept. 18 & 19), titled Cinemauto: A Celebration of Hispanic Filmmakers featuring Selena isbenefitting Homeboy Industries Art Academy and LALIFF and honoring, celebrating and amplifying Hispanic filmmakers for Hispanic Heritage Month, and the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) is curating 4 different short films and music videos by 4 different filmmakers.
Through city and county guidelines, Cinemauto will ensure a COVID-19 safety compliant experience, which includes official COVID ambassadors and a COVID-19 trained production team. Cinemauto will also have a unique hand-washing experience to create a sense of calmness with vetiver in the air.
To help energize Chinatown and support its local restaurants, all tickets include entry, dinner and a movie. With the purchase of a ticket, guests can select from one of our curated “takeout” meal boxes, with vegan options, prepared by our local restaurant partners that will be tailored for safe and easy consumption in your vehicle and delivered via carhop service.

Proceeds from ticket and merch sales will benefit LALIFF, Homeboy Industries, Junior High, Las Fotos Project, Food Forward, and #XMAP: In Plain Sight.
