‘Echo Park Rising’ Returns August 15 – 18

Echo Park Rising returns this August 15-18 for its ninth year, featuring a special movie night made possible by Los Angeles City Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell, who will showcase a free screening of A Hard Day’s Night by the Echo Park Lake, as well as the LA premiere of Scott Crawford’s new documentary Boy Howdy: The Story of CREEM Magazine at the Echoplex.

An initial group of Echo Park-raised performers this year include  The Paranoyds, the psyched-out surf-pop of SadGirl, Sister Mantos, Hana Vu, Juiceboxxx, Goon, the laid-back neo-soul of Allensworth, Kills Birds, Guards, the jazz-tinged experimental hip-hop of Black Nile, Ginger Root, Swimm, Cosmonauts, The Pantones, Veronica Bianqui, Poppy Jean Crawford, Neil Frances, the space-age tropicalia of Healing Gems, Total Heat, R. Clown. Liberty Stage headliners, more musicians, comedians and other fine artists to be announced.

Attendees are encouraged to bike and take public transportation to the event. To celebrate those who “Make It Good”  by biking to Echo Park Rising, Clif Bar & Company in partnership with American Forests will plant 1 tree for every person who rides a bike to the event through the American ReLeaf Program. Since 1991, American Forests have planted over 7.5 million trees after threats due to climate change like wildfire and prolonged drought. The donation from Clif Bar will help support this critical work in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California, a recreational hot-spot for local residents. Clif Bar’s partnership with American Forests began in 2003 and continues on with Clif Bar providing support for reforestation projects across the country.

This FREE event is made possible through business, government, grant and sponsor support from a growing list of partners including Allen & Heath, Baby Robot Media, Bedrock.LA, Bose Professional, CD1 (Gil Cedillo), CD13 (Mitch O’Farrell), Clif Bar, Community Partners, Dangerbird Records, Department of Cultural Affairs, DoLA, Echo Park Chamber of Commerce, The Echo + Echoplex, Fernet-Branca, iam8Bit, JUMP, LA Department of Recreation and Parks, Lagunitas, Lassen’s Natural Food & Vitamins, Mountain Valley Spring Water (official water), Mohawk Bend, QSC, Sched, Spaceland Presents, Studio Number One, and Taix.
