¿Que Rollo con el Pollo?
To celebrate the release of “Como Cortar a Tu Patan” (“How To Break Up With Your Douchebag”), we chatted with Writer/Director Gabriela Tagliavini.
“Como Cortar a Tu Patan” is Tagliavini’s 6th feature film, it stars Mariana Treviño, Christopher Von Uckermann, Camila Sodi and Sebastián Zurita. A comedy and romance infused film, but with one of the main characters that’s a douchebag, we started off our interview by asking if this film is based on a life experience. This is what Tagliavini said:
I had a douchebag, I dated a douchebag. It lasted 2 years, I wish I had the techniques we teach in the movie, but it’s inevitable. We all fall in love with a douchebag, we stick around hoping that they’ll change, but once a douchebag always a douchebag.
What was it like working with the cast?
We had so much fun working together, Mariana came in for the casting and she was amazing. Christopher Von Uckermann came in and he had great chemistry with Mariana, Camila auditioned for the role of the sister and both her and Mariana had great chemistry instantly. We cast Sebastian as the douchebag because we wanted someone charming but that also had that bad boy vibe.
What message do you hope the audience takes away from the film?
The message is female empowerment and maybe even empower some men. It’s inevitable to fall in love, but we have to realize who we fall in love with. The film is called “Como Cortar A Tu Patan,” but there are women out there who can also be douchebags, this film is not only for women it’s also for men. It’s fun and I hope audiences love it as much as we loved making it.
Can we expect a sequel or a spin-off?
[laughs] We were talking about that today, we were saying that if we make a sequel like “Como Cortar a Tu Patana,” because how I mentioned earlier, there are women out there who are like bad women. It’s not just men, it would be funny and I think a lot of men out there will relate to that.
As a good reporter does, I did some investigating and found out that Gabriela is working on a new project with Antonio Banderas and Mike Tyson, I asked for some details, but that was a big no, no. She did, however, say that she’d be more than happy to talk about that project in a couple of months once she’s allowed to do so.
