#ERocksExclusive: Interview w/ Susie Garcia, Director & Founder of Las Colibrí

We’re a couple of days away from one of the most anticipated events in Los Angeles, VIVA LA TRADICIÓN, a celebration of music, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the unforgettable album entitled “Canciones de Mi Padre” by Linda Ronstadt, who with this production became an icon for traditional Mexican Mariachi music in the United States.

VIVA LA TRADICIÓN takes place Saturday, Sept. 30th at the iconic Ford Theater. To help celebrate and bring you a bit more information of the event, we spoke to Susie Garcia, Director, and Founder of Las Colibrí, Los Angeles’ favorite all-stringed female mariachi.

We asked Susie what it feels like to perform at such a show that is to be iconic, she said:

Linda Ronstadt’s music is iconic, we’re honored to perform at VIVA LA TRADICIÓN. Unfortunately, Linda won’t be performing due to her health, but it will still be an amazing event. Linda’s niece, Marisa Ronstadt will be performing, so that is sure to be pretty spectacular.

Not only is it a night to celebrate Linda Ronstadt’s unforgettable, iconic album “Canciones de Mi Padre,” Las Colibrí will be taking the stage to perform. We asked Susie, what can we expect from Las Colibrí’s set and can we expect any surprise collaborations? This is what she said:

I can’t give too much away, but what I can tell you is that we won’t be doing any collaborations. We’re going to showcase a diversity of songs, including a song in English and of course a song or two by Linda Ronstadt. Plus, there will be 12 girls up on stage performing, this is the most we’ve ever had performing on stage, it’s going to be spectacular.

VIVA LA TRADICIÓN is going to be an unforgettable celebration of Linda Ronstadt’s music, the event is SOLD OUT.

Before we ended our conversation with Susie, we asked her, when can we expect new music from Las Colibrí? This is what she said:

2018, definitely going to complete a new album in 2018. It’s taken a while, but new music is definitely coming. We want this new album to showcase that we’re proud to be Mexican, despite all the controversy happening in politics and in the world.

VIVA LA TRADICIÓN will be a celebration of Linda Ronstadt’s music, but we’re hoping it will cast a bright light on Mexican traditions and hopefully help bring the world together. Check out some of La Colibrí’s music, below.
