Mighty Aphrodite Pictures has confirmed Vadhir Derbez and Elyfer Torres are set to star in Jorge Xolalpa’s sixth untitled film.
In a time where inclusion and representation for Latinos continues to be woefully inadequate, Xolalpa is determined to break glass ceilings by putting his money where his mouth is. After having received critical acclaim for his latest foreign language masterpiece “Your Iron Lady” Xolalpa is ready to continue his “one film a year” tradition. According to IMDb, pre-production for the “Untitled Jorge Xolalpa Project” has begun. The plot is currently being kept under wraps, but sources close to the director have described the picture as a “Drama about a young couple whose relationship is tested by superficial forces.” The studio is eyeing a 2022 release.
Derbez is best known for his role in “How to Be A Latin Lover” and most recently he can be seen as Father Daniel in “The Seventh Day” starring alongside Guy Pierce. Torres is known for her breakout role as Beatriz in Telemundo’s hit series “Betty in NY.” Xolalpa most recent work includes award-winning “Your Iron Lady” and his upcoming film “MELANCOLiA” starring Alessandra Rosaldo, Plutarco Haza, and Laura Flores which is scheduled to premiere this coming summer.
Production for the untitled picture is scheduled to begin as early as March 2021. The script is written and directed by Xolalpa and is being produced by Val Valdez, Sara Seligman, and Xolalpa under Mighty Aphrodite Pictures, Undeniable Entertainment, and Avatar Entertainment.
Derbez and Torres are both repped by UTA and Avatar Entertainment. Xolalpa is repped by Avatar Entertainment.
