Get ready for an all-new IMAX experience at California Science Center’s IMAX Theater.
Beginning Oct. 11, Science Center IMAX Theater guests will discover the future of film with crystal-clear light, sights, and sounds. IMAX’s 12-channel surround sound system, delivering extraordinary audio, will debut simultaneously, engaging viewers through multi-sensory immersion.
From now through Oct. 10, the California Science Center IMAX Theater will briefly be closed to undergo the extensive transformation of adding the new system. After the grand reopening, featuring the installation of a new IMAX screen, additional channels of sound and a new laser projection system, the seven-story, 477-seat theater will allow guests to experience a quantum leap in film technology.
California Science Center President Jeffrey Rudolph said:
We are pleased to introduce IMAX with Laser to our audiences. The newest laser system, with breathtakingly vivid images, will stimulate curiosity and inspire science learning in visitors of all ages, and give us access to the best educational films for our guests.
Mark Welton, President, IMAX Theatres, added:
Since 1998, the California Science Center and IMAX have delivered awe-inspiring educational experiences about the wonders of science for millions of patrons. IMAX with laser is more than a handful of new innovations – it’s a re-imagination of the movie theater experience that will transport the Science Center’s guests into the most acclaimed science documentaries like never before. We applaud the Science Center’s commitment to technology and innovation and together look forward to launching a new chapter of immersive educational experiences for generations to come.
On Oct. 11, two new exciting films will premiere along with the new IMAX with Laser system, immersing audiences in the world’s most advanced cinema experience. Amazon Adventure 3D and Hurricane 3D were specifically selected to illustrate the capabilities of the next-generation IMAX with Laser system. Amazon Adventure 3D brings the vibrant colors of the tropical rainforests of Brazil to life. Film-goers will almost be able to feel the screaming wind through the new IMAX sound system while watching Hurricane 3D. The California Science Center’s IMAX theater is the only IMAX with Laser theater to show exclusively educational films in California.
Designed from the ground up for IMAX’s largest screens, IMAX with Laser features a dual 4K laser projection system that is equipped with a new optical engine and a suite of proprietary IMAX technologies capable of projecting an image with maximum resolution and sharpness, unparalleled 2D and 3D brightness, and an expanded color gamut that will allow filmmakers to present more brilliant, exotic colors than ever before.
IMAX’s new laser system includes new IMAX sound technology that delivers even greater power and precision for ultimate audio immersion. The new system has been upgraded to 12 discrete channels plus sub-bass and includes additional side channels as well as new overhead channels that will improve the system’s ability to position sounds at any point in the theater and ensure every seat is the best in the house.
