Mighty Aphrodite Pictures has confirmed Leandra Rose is set to join Xolalpa’s highly anticipated new film “Union Station.”
As of now, all details are being kept under wraps, but when we reached out to Leandra Rose, she said:
I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Xolalpa’s latest project and I am so appreciative that they believe in my ability to bring such an iconic personality to life. I am thankful that powerful queer stories like these are being told which demonstrate drag visibility and resiliency.
Joining her are rising drag performers Mayday and Mia Mia.
In a time when inclusion and representation for the Latinx community continues to be woefully inadequate, once again, Xolalpa is putting his money where his mouth is by keeping his promise of making films for and by his community. According to IMDb, pre-production for the “Union Station” has begun and production is set to begin next month in Los Angeles.
When asked for comment, Xolalpa said:
I am excited to be making a film that’s close to my heart and my community. Growing up, I never saw people that looked like me on screen. I never questioned it because I knew I would change that one day. And that day is today!
Per usual, the plot is being kept under wraps, but sources close to the director have described the indie picture as a “Latinx queer romantic dramedy.” The film is being produced by Jorge Xolalpa at Mighty Aphrodite Pictures in association with Crimson Edge. The studio is eyeing a 2023 release.
Xolalpa is Managed by Val Valdez at Avatar Entertainment.
