Leonardo Aguilar Releases Deluxe Version of Joan Sebastian Tribute Album ‘SOY COMO QUIERO SER’

Mexican singer-songwriter Leonardo Aguilar recently paid homage to the legendary Joan Sebastian with his album, Soy Como Quiero Ser. The deluxe version album also features a new cover version of “Bandido De Amores” featuring his dad, Pepe Aguilar.

The track is a special one for the Aguilar family since the original was recorded as a duet between Joan Sebastian and Antonio Aguilar, one of the greatest legends in Mexican music history as well as Leonardo’s grandfather and Pepe’s father. This new version stays true to the banda sinaloense arrangement showcased on Sebastian’s album, Con Tambora, with passionate performances from father and son. Likewise, the accompanying music video portrays both Aguilar men expertly riding their horses, adding another personal touch to the visual element of this reinterpretation.

Leonardo Aguilar’s connection to Joan Sebastian runs deep, with the latter’s music influencing Leonardo’s artistic journey from a young age, inspiring him to write his earliest songs. Leonardo—who produced every song on the album himself—now brings his admiration full circle with his latest full-length.
