U.S. Spanish-language premium streaming service, Pantaya announced it has started production on the event series “The Beautiful Lie” (working title) in Mexico City.
Starring and executive produced by Kate del Castillo (“La Reina del Sur”), with Maxi Iglesias (“Valeria”), Rubén Zamora (“Buscando a Frida”), Martin Altomaro (“Manual Para Galanes”), Edwarda Gurrola (“Señorita 89”), Lucia Gómez Robledo (“Como Sobrevivir Soltero”), Daniel Tovar (“Mirreyes VS Godinez”), and Directed by Hari Sama (“This Is Not Berlin”).
The six-part drama series is a co-production of Pantaya, Endemol Shine Boomdog, and del Castillo’s production label Cholawood Productions.
“The Beautiful Lie” tells the story of Ana Montes de Oca (Kate del Castillo), a Mexican gold-medal-winning Olympic diver and national hero, who falls in love with a young musician. What follows is a journey of self-discovery, one that society, unfortunately, doesn’t embrace. Based on the 2015 TV adaptation by Endemol Shine Australia, acclaimed Spanish writers Almudena Ocaña and Aurora García Tortosa (“Elite”) are also working on the series.
