SESAC Latina celebrated the worldwide successes of its songwriters and publishers at its annual SESAC LATINA MUSIC AWARDS last night at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. SESAC Latina, the music rights organization, presented its performance awards, television awards, and top honors to its affiliate songwriters and publishers.
On hand to present the awards were John Josephson, SESAC’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer; Sam Kling, SESAC’s Senior Vice President of Creative Services; andCeleste Zendejas, Director of SESAC Latina.
SESAC Latina affiliate Nicky Jam received top honor as Songwriter of the Year for some of Latin music’s top hits that he penned. In the category of Song of the Year, which is determined by the longevity of a song’s presence on the charts, the SESAC Latina Award went to “X”, recorded by Nicky Jam, and co-written by Jam and Juan Diego Medina.
Banda Sebastianes kicked off the evening performances with their award-winning song “En Vida,” and Puerto Rican singer Valentino followed with “Besame” and “Tu y Yo”.
Mexican superstar and GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY nominee Angela Aguilar delivered an incredibly powerful rendition of “Bésame Mucho”. Her brother Leonardo, also a Latin GRAMMY nominated artist, surprised the audience with the performance of “Tu Mendigo Recuerdo”, a song he wrote for his new album.
Additional winners on hand to celebrate included Christian Nodal, DVLP, Luciano Luna, Mauricio Arriaga, Danileigh, Fernando Corona, and others.
