Stars and Creators Talk Marvel’s “What If…?”

We had the opportunity to attend the virtual press conference for Marvel’s highly-anticipated new animated series, What If…? set to be available to stream on August 11th on Disney+.

During a press conference with the show’s creators, plus star Jeffrey Wright, producer Brad Winderbaum teased that it’s “no coincidence” that the show is coming out right after the groundbreaking series, Loki. If you haven’t binge-watched Loki…what are you waiting for!?! This is what Winderbaum, said:

It’s no coincidence that the show picks up right after Loki. The multi-verse has erupted in every possible direction. What if…? gives us a chance to explore that. Without going into great detail, I can tell you that What If…? as a project [and] as a story that exists in the MCU is as important as any other. It’s woven into that same tapestry. So, there’s a lot of potential.

Marvel’s What If…? is an anthology of alternate reality stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with multiple people involved referring to it as an MCU version of The Twilight Zone. Things are going to get strange, but a highlight that is sure to make Black Panther fans happy is that What If..? will feature the late Chadwick Boseman’s final performance as T’Challa. Since this series is like the Twilight Zone, T’Challa doesn’t grow up to be the Black Panther and the king of Wakanda on this show. Instead, he gets accidentally picked up by Yondu’s Ravagers when they go to kidnap young Peter Quill and—in one of What If…?’s more unexpected turns—he ends up becoming Star-Lord.

Did your jaw drop? Because ours did, who else will be part of the cast of What If…? Well, that is being kept under wraps, but this is Marvel and you already know they don’t play. Don’t forget to stream What If…? on Disney+ starting August 11th.
