GRAMMY Award-winning San Diego rock outfit Switchfoot releases their new single “if i were you,” the latest track off their forthcoming Tony Berg-produced and Tchad Blake-mixed album interrobang.
An upbeat, toe-tapping anthem, “if i were you” adds to interrobang’s overarching social commentary and ponders the question: is unity homogeneity or can differences be tolerated?
Providing context to the new single, Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman says:
I love how the song begins to reach towards a transcendent truth, only to fall again into a parody of humanity’s pride.
A departure from the band’s previous moody, darkly lit music videos, “if i were you” amps up the energy and emphasizes the song’s tongue-in-cheek attitude. During a Switchfoot jam session, each member gets their own turn kicking everyone out of the band, playing every instrument themselves. The video ends with Jon coming face-to-face with himself, only to reveal that his clone is just another man named Willis Chin (a call-back to the first Switchfoot album) wearing a mask of Jon’s face.
