2020 has been a bizarre year, with movie theaters shutting down and movie festivals going virtual you might think that no movies made a statement, but one did, Your Iron Lady, is that movie, written and directed by Jorge Xolalpa Jr.
A year in the life of Teresa: an immigrant mother of four who after being married for 22 years, decides to leave her abusive husband upon her arrival to the U.S., in 1998.
Your Iron Lady is based on a short story by Galan, the film adaptation was brought to life by the incredible Jorge Xolalpa Jr, who happens to be her son. A hardworking individual who’s had to overcome life-changing obstacles himself including being a DACA recipient, we’ve had the opportunity to chat with Xolalpa and we can tell you that he is a creative genius. The film has been garnering a ton of Golden Globes buzz, if nominated on February 3rd, Your Iron Lady will make history as the first motion picture with a budget of $1500.
Your Iron Lady truly is a love letter to all mothers, you witness the struggle, the resilience, the obstacles that life can throw at you. It is a beautiful yet heartbreaking story, we had the opportunity to chat with the real-life Iron Lady, Teresa Ramirez Galan, and we can tell you that she is a chingona (badass woman). Listening to her tell us her story was heartbreaking but inspiring, it goes to show that every person has a story to tell, Your Iron Lady is a masterpiece.
Xolalpa made it a goal to release a movie every year, Your Iron Lady is his fourth, in 2021 he’ll release his fifth film MELANCOLíA which stars Alessandra Rosaldo, Plutarco Haza, and Laura Flores. Aside from working on a new film, Xolalpa has been keeping busy during quarantine writing, working on scripts for new films, and writing/producing a television series. We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again, Xolalpa is a creative genius.
Your Iron Lady has won various awards at a couple of film festivals including “Best Feature Film,” and “Best Director” at the 2020 Sunscreen Film Festival, US. “Best Ensemble” at Canal de Panama International Film Festival, “Best Director” at Borrego Springs Film Festival, “Best Feature” at Maryland International Film Festival, just to name a few.
The cast of Your Iron Lady is simply phenomenal, Victoria Del Rosal portrays Teresa, the emotion, the rawness she gives the role is next level, every actor gives such a powerful performance that they’ll leave you stunned.
