The Maine Release New Album ‘XOXO: From Love & Anxiety In Real Time’

DIY alt-rockers The Maine today release their eighth studio album, XOXO: From Love & Anxiety In Real Time, in a partnership between their label, 8123 and Photo Finish Records.

Lead singer John O’Callaghan says:

I suppose it’s mostly for you to decide what ‘XOXO’ means. But to me, it’s the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows, and every last little feeling in between. So without dirtying it all up with words, please sit back and with an open head and heart and allow us to bring you our 8th studio album, XOXO FROM LOVE & ANXIETY IN REAL TIME.

The first track and single from the LP “Sticky,” released in March is a pop gem. The album pivots to tracks “Pretender” and “High Forever” which flex their rock sensibilities. The pretty, jangly “Pretender” is a poignant catchy cut. “High Forever” relies on John’s rasp and drummer Pat Kirch’s powerful percussion to drive the song. “Lips” is a sweet summer anthem. The love song, which kicks off with a riff which propels listeners to get up and dance.

The new 10-track album, XOXO: From Love And Anxiety In Real Time, showcases their knack for combining pop and rock without losing any danceability. The Maine’s roots in DIY remain strong on this record as the band effortlessly boasts their homemade anthemic and revelatory lyrics on each track. Their songwriting on this collection includes their consistently thoughtful lyrics touching on the topics of love and mental health while holding onto their positive radio friendly sound.
