Travel with Purpose & Artivist Entertainment Present “Liberación Collective: The Congo & Lebanon”

Liberación Collective: The Congo & Lebanon is the first event of a 3-part series with the focus to educate and draw the parallels amongst different global issues in order to find connective tissue amongst marginalized communities across Los Angeles.

The event will take place Saturday, April 26th at the historic Miracle Theatre in Inglewood from 2-10 PM.

There will be a screening of Sundance winning and Oscar nominated documentary, A Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat, followed by performances, speeches, poetry readings, workshops and an all-day market including over 30 vendors. The keynote speakers include acclaimed American musician, actor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, Vic Mensa, who has roots in Ghana and has dedicated his career bridging cultural divides between Africa and the African diaspora, and New York Times bestselling author, writer and activist, Ijeoma Oluo, recipient of the 2018 Feminist Humanist Award and the 2020 Harvard Humanist of the Year Award, and named to the 2021 TIME 100 Next list and twice named to the Root 100 list.

Confirmed to perform is Leimert Park’s The Mafé Ensemble, a west African drumming collective, Echo Park based Boleros With Attitude who bridge hip hop and boleros and went viral last year for their cover of Wu Tang’s C.R.E.A.M, North Long Beach recording artist, writer and filmmaker, JJ’88, whose music and story are the focal point of the Award-winning visual album-documentary SONGS FROM THE HOLE, which he wrote and co- produced from prison after serving 18 years, and Seattle-based musician, writer and former host of the show Early on KEXP 90.3 FM, Gabriel Teodros. In addition, the event will include poetry readings by Shelley BruceDiandra Marizet and Skye Cabrera as well as music by Anthony Valadez and Deemie.

Liberación Collective: The Congo & Lebanon will have multiple activations throughout the day across The Miracle Theatre and the two venues next door. There will be 3 workshops including: A Way to Live Without the System led by creative director, organizer, and producer Richie Reseda, who founded the worker-owned media collective question culture and co-founded the feminist accountability program Success Stories, featured in the CNN documentary The Feminist on Cellblock Y during his incarceration in Soledad Prison, a Lebanese Dabke dance class by Maha and a Soundbath by Sahar.
